Cathouse, there are lots of suggestions for drying, salting, pickling etc in a favourite book of mine, Food From Your Garden by Readers Digest. It's a brilliant book, tells you how to grow everything, how much to grow, gives you recipes and also has all the preserving recipes. I use it for wine-making, jam, chutney etc etc.It really is worth getting!

I wouldn't use it for beans again, as it will have absorbed moisture from the previous lot. I might try it in a brine, maybe, or on the asparagus bed, not sure.........

Katie, I do believe I have that book. Away from home at the moment but will check as soon as I am able. Don't know why I haven't looked before. Thanks
